Bike/Hike It If You Can Weekend 2023
July 14, 2023 @ 5:00 pm – July 16, 2023 @ 5:00 pm
Join us at the club on the weekend of July 14-16 for the annual Bike Hike weekend.
It’s a great time to get up to the club in the summer to ride the roads, hike the mountains, swim at Lareau swimming hole, and chill out at dinner on the deck at the Basebox.
For hikers, we plan to climb Camel’s Hump on Saturday, making our way up Vermont’s third highest peak on a six mile loop that takes about 4 to 5 hours, depending on how long we linger to take in the views from the summit, at close to 4,100 feet.
On Sunday, we’ll climb General Stark’s Mountain, heading up along the ski trails, past the Waterfall and Nature Center to the top of the Double. There we’ll meet the Long Trail and head south to the top of the Single on a trail with spectacular views, a cave, steel rungs to ascend one steep cliff, finally arriving in Paradise. After a stop at Stark’s Nest, we’ll descend Upper Antelope to Catamount and Broadway to make it back down.
The biking routes are varied – from 25 to 65 miles. On Saturday, a group of intrepid cyclists, led by Carla Stein, and my son, Luke, will take on the Two Gaps ride, ascending both the App Gap and Middlebury Gap. Others will loop down to Warren, and back north Middlesex, returning over Duxbury Hill on a 45-mile ride. Others can take shorter routes to Warren and back around to Waitsfield. Sunday’s ride will be down to Moss Glen Falls and back, about 35 miles.
We’ll have dinner Saturday night at the Basebox.
